Care instructions
Handmade, wire wrapped jewelry is delicate by nature and should be handled with care. Don’t be scared! By all means! Wear and enjoy your jewelry! These are merely tips and suggestions for preventing wear and tear and keeping your jewelry in good shape so it will last a long time.
I do not recommend sleeping, showering or swimming in anything handmade as residue from everyday products and activities can leave moisture and chemicals can compromise the metals and gemstones. Silver will naturally tarnish over time from sulfur in the air. To avoid this, please store in an airtight container ( a zip lock bag should do the job) You can quickly polish up and shine with the polishing cloth enclosed for Silver.
Cleaning instructions vary by metals and gemstones, contact me at emily@jewelrylush.com if you have questions about how to clean your jewelry. Here are some basic instructions for a quick jewelry refresh.
To clean Jewelry:
- Get a bowl of warm water with a touch of gentle soap, like Dawn.
- Let the piece soak for approximately 1 minute.
- Gently scrub with a soft toothbrush, making sure to really get into the chain and wires where the dirt and product like to build up. ***Keyword, GENTLE! Handmade, wire wrapped jewelry is delicate by nature and should be handled with care
- Rinse off the soap with lukewarm water a few times.
- Pat dry afterward. I typically lay the jewelry down on a folded dish towel to absorb the moisture and pat dry. Make sure it's clean and dry before storing it.
What is 935 Argentium Silver?
Argentium Silver is stronger and more durable than traditional sterling. It is purer than Sterling (935, compared to 925), has increased tarnish resistance, a whiter color, antibacterial and hypoallergenic properties. All of these benefits make Argentium Silver better for the end wearer and gentler on the environment, as less chemicals are used in production.
What is Gold-filled?
Gold-filled is constructed in two or three layers. The core metal is high quality jewelers’ brass. The outer layer of gold filled jewelry consists entirely of pure 14k gold which is heat bonded to the core. Unlike gold plated, “dipped” or vermeil metals, Gold-filled is legally required to contain 5% or 1/20 gold by weight. The 5% is then described by the karat of the gold alloy. We use 14k gold-filled. 14k Gold-filled products are identified as 14/20 Gold-filled or 14k Goldfill for short.
Why use Gold-filled?
It is a fantastic alternative to traditional gold, as it is much more affordable than pure gold and does not fade or tarnish like gold plated or Vermeil. It will not flake off or turn your skin green and offers a great option for people with sensitive skin. This is why I’ve chosen to only use 14k gold filled products, I stand behind my product 100% and would never sell something I wouldn't wear myself.
I have metal sensitivities, will this work for me?
Most people find they have no sensitivity to gold-filled jewelry, because the outside of the piece (which touches the skin) is solid 14k gold, it interacts with your skin in the same way solid 14k gold would. If you are not sensitive to solid gold, you should find gold-filled agrees with your skin.
Does it contain Nickel?
No. Gold-fill is nickel free.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes! I am happy to take custom orders. After a consultation and agreeing to a design. I do require a deposit of 50% of the estimated total down to begin working on the project. This will be applied to the remaining portion of the item. Once payment is received I will begin the order and have it finished by the agreed upon date.
